8th Sunday after Pentecost
Just these lines, my friends …

… to remind you that I’m taking a few weeks of rest and renewal and will return on September 6. Read the FAQ about my time away.

You are in the best of hands with our pastors, Paul, Corey, Roldan and Jenny. Be sure to join us for worship every Sunday morning in person, live online when you are traveling, or throughout the week on our youtube.com/matthewsumc channel.

May you and yours enjoy a restful summer season and a renewed connection with God and the church.

Ministry Made Possible by Your Giving, Serving & Loving!

This past Saturday, the Matthews UMC Music Ministry presented an Ice Cream Social and A Night on Broadway as a fundraiser to hire instrumentalists for our Christmas Concert scheduled for Sunday, December 11, 2022. (Mark your calendars now!) Our 50-person choir for the evening, which included some additional folks from our community, performed for a group of well over 300 people. There was standing room only in the Gym with additional folding chairs being added to accommodate the large crowd; it was an amazing night!

The MUMC Orchestra performed two numbers, the Choir sang medleys from Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables, we heard 21 soloists, two duets and a wanna-be ventriloquist. The most awesome thing was seeing 16-year-olds singing alongside 80-year-olds. Everyone was entertained!

Thank you to Sam Hatcher for driving two busloads of residents from Windsor Run so they could enjoy an evening out. This was truly a community event filled with laughter and fun!

This Sunday in Worship

We invite you to join this Sunday in person or online at 8:15 am (traditional – in person only), 9:30 am (contemporary), 11:00 am (traditional) or 12:30 (Spanish – in person only).

Rev. A.J. Thomas, Director of Client Relations of the United Methodist Foundation of Western N.C., will be with us in our morning services. His message is titled: Choosing the Better Part from Luke 10:38-42.

In our Spanish-speaking CCH community, Pastor Roldan’s message is titled: Take Care of Healthy Doctrine from 2 Timothy 1:8-14.

And now, as always, during these strange, uncertain, and hopeful days, remember … God does God’s best work in moments like this.
