Rehearsals: Thursday, 7:00 - 8:30 PM (Choir Room: Brewer Hall)
Lift your voice in traditional praise! The Sanctuary Choir is a welcoming community of singers with a wide range of ages and experiences, all dedicated to supporting the weekly message through challenging and beautiful choral literature. Singing regularly for our Traditional Sanctuary services, this choir is a close-knit family that is always eager to welcome new voices.
MUMC Orchestra
Director: Craig Estep
Rehearsals: Monday, 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM (Choir Room: Brewer Hall)
Dust off your instrument and share your musical talents! The MUMC Orchestra brings together experienced musicians--from high school students to adults--to add a rich, majestic layer to our worship lifestyle. In addition to performing standalone instrumental pieces throughout the season, this ensemble regularly collaborates with the Sanctuary Choir to provide powerful orchestration for major musical works during special services. Out of our thriving orchestra ministry, we also feature specialized chamber groups, including the MUMC Brass Ensemble and MUMC Flute Choir, which offer unique opportunities for focused instrumental praise for the church and community.
The Joyful Ringers
Director: Eon Malan
Rehearsals: Wednesday, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM (Sanctuary)
Bring music to life with our vibrant handbell ministry! The Joyful Ringers is a five-octave handbell choir that rehearses weekly and shares their music in worship once a month from September through May. This ensemble is a wonderfully supportive community of musicians, and while the ability to read music is required for all ringers and substitutes, no prior handbell experience is necessary to get started. Our handbell ministry also proudly features The Quarter Tones (a handbell quartet), offering additional opportunities for ringers to connect and share their talents with the church and community. Participation in these ensembles is at the discretion of the director.
Contemporary Praise Team
Director: Byron Murphy, Associate Director: John Biggers
Rehearsals: Tuesday, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Sanctuary)
Lead the church in modern worship! The Contemporary Praise Team is a dedicated community of vocalists and instrumentalists who bring energy and passion to our 9:30 AM Contemporary Service every Sunday. If you love contemporary worship music and want to use your musical gifts to help people connect with God in an uplifting, relevant environment, we would love to connect with you.
Melody Makers Community Choir
Director: Craig Estep, Accompanist: Kathy White
Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM (Choir Room)
Founded in 1997, the Melody Makers bring together voices from churches and denominations across the Charlotte, Matthews, and Monroe areas. Whether you currently sing in your church choir or have never sung in an organized group before, this ensemble is open to anyone with a desire to "make a joyful noise to the Lord." Join a warm, welcoming community united by a shared love for song and fellowship! This group rehearses from September through May and presents major Christmas and Spring concerts for the community in our Sanctuary.
Worship Arts
True worship is a collective offering, brought to life not just through music, but through the dedicated hands of those who prepare our sacred spaces and welcome all who enter. Our Worship Arts Ministry offers a beautiful variety of ways to serve behind the scenes or on the front lines of Sunday mornings. Whether you feel called to the quiet reverence of the Altar Guild, the holy invitation of serving as a Communion Steward or Server, or the vital children's leadership of our Acolytes, there is a place for you. From the warm hospitality of our Ushers & Greeters to the comforting care provided by our Wedding & Funeral Stewards, every role ensures our community experiences the grace and presence of God.
Our Music & Worship Arts Ministries offer connections for people who share a passion for music. Groups meet regularly and personal friendships are formed, creating a community of people who support and care for one another. If interested in joining one of the groups, please contact Craig Estep at 704-815-1907 or complete this form.
