Dear Fellow Ministers,
Thank you for your authentic ministry. You live your faith in beautiful ways, and it really does make a difference. I know because I get a front seat to witness the ways you serve, and I have been the recipient of your ministry. Matthews United Methodist Church is a rare place in our world where people can discover their giftedness and use it for God’s glory. We talk a lot about real people seeking a real God to live as real disciples. Thank you for the countless ways you do that.
You are a gift, and that is one of the reasons we are excited to announce that Bishop Carter and the Cabinet (the group of District Superintendents) have appointed the clergy at MUMC to return for another year of ministry. Clergy are appointed for one year at a time to meet the missional needs of the congregations. We are thrilled to continue this journey together. I am honored to get to live and serve in what I consider “The Promised Land” here at MUMC.
Personally, one of my great joys is working with our ministry team of clergy and lay staff. Pastor Susan is a prime example of that. We are all made better by her creativity and leadership. This week she will be preaching on I Peter 2:2-10. I hope you will pray through that text as God forms a sermon in all of us together.
As always, we include a link to last week’s service. You will note special music at the 11 am service and the wonderful work of our Praise Team at 9:30 am. In addition, watch my weekly video to learn about a special place on campus designated for the items you donate.
I am grateful to get to be one of the pastors at MUMC. You challenge me to see God’s love in new ways. I look forward to being in ministry with you this week!
In Christ’s Service,
David
Did you know that our CCH families have a tradition of hosting the last night of Room In The Inn in March? This year, over 100 Outreach Bags were prepared for the men, and extras were set aside for outreach. Rob & Sarah (MUMC Staff) shared bags with unhoused women at an intersection close to the church. Thank you, CCH, for the love and care placed into each bag and for spreading a hopeful message beyond our walls.

Did you know that Sarah Ward Polo and Angello Polo Espinoza were married on March 28 in Pittsboro, NC? Sarah is the daughter of Jenny Ward. Congratulations to the happy couple who now reside in Durham, NC.
Did you know that the MUMC United Women in Faith, with support from our congregation, collected 1,103 diapers and 1,844 wipes to support Global Impact Partner, Alliance Center 4 Education? These annual donations fulfill about half of their yearly needs for these items!

Did you know that MUMC has a Men’s Basketball group that meets on Wednesday mornings at 5:30 AM? What a great way to start the day, getting some exercise & social connection before the workday. One might even see Pastor David shooting some early morning hoops!
