Dear Fellow Ministers,
What a glorious Sunday we had last week! 14 young people professed faith in Jesus Christ and joined Matthews UMC (MUMC) through Confirmation. That is a big deal. There was amazing music with the MUMC Orchestra at the 8:15 and 11 am services, Wendi Moskowitz sang a beautiful song, “Come To Me,” and as always our Praise Team was incredible at 9:30 am. On Ascension Sunday, we talked about it being our turn to step up as disciples. View this link to our 9:30 and 11 am online worship. Sharing the link to our streams on YouTube is a great way to invite someone to worship with us, by the way! You can also share my weekly video!
The busy-ness of May continues for MUMC this week. Regular administrative meetings are taking place, and new task force has been formed to plan how we can best tell our story when we celebrate our 150th anniversary in 2027. We are so blessed to stand in a long line of faithful people who formed Matthews UMC!
This coming Sunday is Pentecost, a REALLY big day in the life of The Church. It is the day The Church was born through the power of the Holy Spirit. We encourage everyone to wear red, which signifies “what seemed like individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them” (Acts 2:3). For the next twelve weeks in worship, we will hear short “experiences of the Holy Spirit” from people in our church and community. My hope is that the people sharing these experiences will remind us that we all interact with the Holy Spirit in different ways.
I hope you will read through Acts 2:1-21 as God forms a sermon in us. Be ready to hear the scripture in a new way. I am honored to get to be one of the pastors here. I hope you can join in worship, and invite someone else to join us, at 8:15, 9:30 or 11 am for English-speaking services, or 12:30 pm for our Spanish-speaking service. I look forward to being in ministry with you this week!
In Christ,
David Christy
