6th Sunday of Easter | Memorial Day Weekend
Just these lines …

… to say that I sound like a broken record, but my oh my, what a beautiful Sunday of worship:

  • Thank you, Craig Estep, for your leadership of our amazing Joyful Ringers. I’m not sure we can wait until the fall to hear them again.
  • Shannon Remley and the haunting melody of the song, Plowshare Prayer. Thank you, Contemporary Praise Team, for your outstanding accompaniment.
  • Our wonderful group of Confirmands making their entrance into the life and ministry of Matthews United Methodist Church (MUMC). They’ve spent the past year in preparation for these moments … and now they follow Jesus. The future is bright for MUMC with these amazing young people.
    • Way to go, Olivia Wren Busch, Michael Abe Markus, Olivia Adeline Rackley, Garyn Dustin Wilkins, Ruby Kelley Amoss, Giselle Hernandez, Grace Margaret Jordan, Rebecca Mel Kamenick, Benjamin Michael Marshall, Carter Scott Nurkin, Javier Eduardo Polanco-Ortiz, Charles Edmond Russell III, Amelia Hilary Terry, Megan Rae Thompson and William James Wallace. We are so excited to see you leave your imprint on MUMC in the coming years. Remember: Do Justice. Love Kindness. Walk Humbly with God.

Town of Matthews Police & Fire Training at MUMC

The Town of Matthews Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency service partners, will conduct joint training exercises on the campus of Matthews United Methodist Church on Tuesdays, June 10, 17 & 24 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. These sessions are crucial to practice collaborative responses and enhance the ability for emergency services to serve the community effectively.

During these training periods, you may observe an increased presence of police cars, fire trucks, and emergency personnel on the church grounds. Please be aware that these are simulated exercises, and there is no emergency situation. As we try to provide minimal disruption to regular church activities, we request that you please plan any visits to the church outside of the noted training dates and times.

Read the complete announcement from the Town of Matthews Police and Fire Departments. Thank you for your understanding and support of our hard-working emergency services teams.

Video Devotional

I am an itinerant (meaning I go where I am sent) United Methodist pastor. I have itinerated six times as a pastor. This time is different though. I’m not itinerating. I am retiring. Let’s talk about it a bit in my devotional for this week, Transitions 1.

This Sunday in Worship

We invite you to join us this Sunday in person at 8:15 (Traditional), 9:30 (Contemporary), 11:00 (Traditional), or online at 9:30, 11:00 or 12:30 (Spanish – in person or here on demand).

Our CCH (Centro Cristiana Hosanna) Community is such a special community who gathers each week in vibrant, dynamic worship at 12:30 pm. They are us, and we are them. These individuals are a gift to us in so many ways. This week, Pastor Roldan’s sermon is titled How to Respond to the Route Change from Acts 16:6-10.

This Sunday, my sermon is titled, 20 Ways to Have the Best Pastor You’ve Ever Had from Philippians 2:19-24. I’ve been in correspondence in the last few days with people who are well acquainted with David Christy and Susan Heafner-Heun (our new pastors beginning July 1). These new pen-pal friends of mine are their current parishioners … where they are serving for a few more days. I’m so excited to share with you some of their thoughts about these two come Sunday.

God is so deeply at work in our midst. I sense it in most every conversation. The best days are ahead of us, Matthews. Share this good news with someone and invite them to church with you.

And now, during these disconcerting, uncertain, confusing and yet, hopeful days, remember … God does God’s best work in moments like this.

Jesus is on the loose!
Dr. Charles (Chuck) W. Wilson II

Did you know that YOU collected 589 lbs of food for Common Heart in ONE WEEK? Thank you for your heartfelt support and generosity for this food drive. YOU are feeding our community. Please keep up the good work over the next 4 weeks — the food drive ends June 15.

Did you know that Agape Christian Counseling partnered with our Hope for Minds & Hearts to host a Mental Health Fair this past Saturday? Attendees stated, “this is just what I needed” and “the conversations were so important to me.” During the workshops, we saw people identifying emotions and learning how to get support. We also saw emotional work through various art mediums. Each of the 20+ vendor organizations were unique, and there was incredible synergy. From meaningful conversations, to seeing people impacted by the workshops and vendors connecting with attendees — it was truly a wonderful thing for our community!
