Outside the Box with Pastor David Christy – The Main Thing

Outside the Box with Pastor David Christy – The Main Thing

Dear Fellow Ministers,

Pam and I are so excited to get to be at Matthews UMC! We have been watching your worship services for months online, and we look forward to getting to be in person with you this week! We will begin a series on “Hope In Chaos” using much of the book of Colossians as our scriptural guide. This week we will specifically look at Colossians 1:1-14 and discover how important it is to name the “main thing” in our lives.

There is so much chaos in our world: devastating natural disasters, political polarization, financial concerns, family stress, and the list could go on. As the Church we have the great privilege of offering the Hope of Jesus Christ! And, goodness, does the Matthews UMC community do that in numerous ways?! This week it is exciting to experience Rainbow Express Camp happening for the 30th year at MUMC … that is tangible HOPE being offered. We also have other camps coming up, where you can plug into ministry. Vacation Bible School is July 21-25, and Music and Arts Camp is August 4-8.

Thank you for your witness; the world needs to see it. I strongly believe that the United Methodist Church in general, and Matthews UMC in particular, is one of the few places where people who have different views on life can come together and be met with the ONE Hope of Jesus Christ. Please continue to pray for those impacted by the flooding in central Texas. Financial donations can be made to the Texas region impacted by the flood by designating “Texas Floods” in the memo line of your check or in Realm for online giving. Funds will be sent to the Rio Texas Conference. Thank you for the many ways you offer hope in a chaotic world. It may seem hard to do sometimes, but we must do all we can to make the love of Christ be primary.

Please join me in praying for our church and its continued witness, consider inviting a friend to worship with you, and ponder a way you might get involved offering hope through MUMC. I am honored to get to be in ministry with you (did you know as baptized Christians, YOU are a minister?!) this week! I look forward to living outside the box with you!

In Christ’s Service,
David

Did you know that the Town of Matthews Police, Fire & EMS Departments conducted training exercises on our campus over 3 days in June? We received the this note of thanks expressing their gratitude for allowing them to use our facility, and we are grateful to them for all they do to keep our communities safe.

Did you know that the Hearts & Hands knitting & crocheting ministry has partnered with some members of the Sanctuary Choir to make cute little lambs for newly baptized babies?
