Matthews UMC History

Matthews United Methodist is honored to have served the people of Matthews and Southeast Charlotte in North Carolina for over 140 years. Ministry reaches far beyond the physical location with options of viewing the livestream and actively being involved in groups over Zoom. The church has always represented a community of people from of all ages. Matthews UMC has long been known for outstanding kids, youth and music programs.

A number of young people who have "grown up" in the life of the church have grown in their faith and have gone on to serve in full-time ministry and mission positions. Powerful moments are shared when we have the opportunity to send forth individuals by commissioning and when some return to share their stories of faith.
