Prepare & Tagging Items for Consignment
Details for Preparing & Tagging Items
IMPORTANT! Items without a tag or missing a tag will NOT be sold. Matthews UMC Consignment Staff & Volunteers are not responsible for items or payment for items that are not tagged, packaged, or prepared correctly. All items without a tag will be placed in the lobby at pick up on Saturday. Please check this table for any of your items. Any items not picked up by 5:30PM on the Saturday of the sale will automatically be donated to MUMC Mission Partners; no exceptions!
It is our hope that the below information will make the preparation & tagging process seamless for our Consignors! If, after reading the below list and consulting the "Items Not Accepted" tab, you still have questions, please feel free to reach out to our team—we are here to help!
- All clothing items and accessories must be dropped off at MUMC on hangers, including Halloween attire, sleepwear and bathing suits. Please use safety pins to attach any bottoms (skirts/pants/shorts/etc) to hangers. Please note that we will not provide hangers. All items must arrive on hangers in order to be accepted.
- Matching sets must be sized the same. For example, if the top is a size 4, the bottoms must be as well.
- We recommend washing and ironing all clothes prior to drop-off to ensure they look their best for the Sale. Additionally, be sure to inspect all items for stains, broken zippers, torn hemlines, holes in wear spots, or excessive wear. Stained, soiled, or damaged items will NOT be accepted.
- If you are selling shoes, be sure they are clean and placed in a Ziplock bag or secured together with zip ties. There is a limit of 10 pairs per-Consignor. Loose shoes will not be accepted to ensure the quality of our Sale.
- Bag or box complete sets of games and puzzles (all pieces required).
- For items with chargers or tiny pieces, place corresponding pieces in a Ziploc bag and tape to the item.
- All electronics must work properly and have functional, charged batteries. Shoppers will want to test the items and ensure they work as expected. If you are selling any riding/motorized toys, be sure to fully charge and secure the charger to the item. We cannot accept riding/motorized toys that are not charged at drop-off, because we cannot confirm they are in good, working order.
After entering your items in your MyConsignmentManager profile, click on "Manage Items" to see the items you have entered. Use the checkboxes on the left to select the items for which you would like to print tags. Once you have items selected, click on the gray "Print" button at the top. This will either bring up a PDF file in a new browser tab with 8 tags per-page OR the system will generate a file that will download to your computer. When you open the PDF file, you will see 8 tags per page.
Print the file using landscape format (it may automatically default to this setting). If the ink is too dark or too light, the tags will not scan. You can test-scan your own tags with any scanning app on your smart phone, even the Target Circle app! If the barcode scans and you get an error message, the barcode is working! If nothing happens, your tags aren't legible and you may need to adjust the file.
While facing the item, the hook of the hanger should face to the left (it will look like the top of a number 2). If need-be, please use safety pins to secure your item to the hanger. Additionally, feel free to hang more than one item per hanger—including for items that make a set.
Pant hangers can be very helpful. If you don't have any, pants can be secured to the TOP of a hanger using safety pins. We recommend not attaching pants to the bottom of a hanger as they slide around and often don't show or sell very well. Please do not secure pants with ties from a tagging gun or by affixing to a shirt—both will create holes in the garments.
Important note: all clothing sized 5T/5 and up MUST be on ADULT-sized hangers. We want to make the drop-off process as smooth as possible, and correctly hanging your items will help streamline the process tremendously! If not hung properly, items are likely to fall of hangers, which could lead to damage or theft. It is our hope that we can sell as many of your items for you as possible, and properly hanging items will help us do that—thank you for your assistance! We will ask you to correct any items
Tags may be attached to clothing using either a tagging gun or safety pins ONLY. If the garment has a back tag, please attach the sales tag there. If the item does not have a back tag, tags should be affixed on the upper right side of the item (if you're looking down at it), being sure to align it with a seam to ensure no holes are created. Note that MUMC cannot accept items damaged from tagging guns.
- No straight pins permitted.
- Do NOT tape over safety pins.
- Use a 50 mm fastener or thicker if you are using a tagging gun. As a reminder, Matthews UMC cannot sell any items without a tag—if a tag falls off, we can't sell it for you!
- Our team will refuse clothing not properly tagged.
Tags on all non-clothing items must be securely taped to the item using either masking or packing tape. Please be sure to evaluate your items, ensuring that the type of tape you use does not damage the item when it's removed. Do NOT place your tag inside a bag or place tape over the barcode as it will prevent us from scanning your items and makes things more cumbersome for shoppers.
