Music Ensembles Provide Connection & Community
Celebrate and honor your musical talents by participating in our many worship ensembles here at Matthews. Whether you are a gifted instrumentalist looking for a community to share your passion, or someone who would like to get more involved in the beginning of their music journey, there is an ensemble for you!
Our ensembles offer connection for people who share a passion for music. Groups meet regularly and personal friendships are formed, creating a community of people who support and care for one another. If interested in joining one of the groups, please contact Craig Estep at 704-815-1907
Sanctuary Choir
Director: Craig Estep, Accompanist: Kathy White
Rehearsing every Thursday night at 7:00pm and singing in the Traditional Sanctuary services, the Sanctuary Choir focuses on challenging vocal literature to support the message in service each week. A community of singers with a wide-range of experience, the Sanctuary Choir is always looking for more singers to welcome!
MUMC Orchestra
Director: Craig Estep
This group occasionally rehearses on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm, as announced. Experienced levels from high school and older are invited to participate (at the discretion of the director). The MUMC Orchestra helps support the Sanctuary Choir throughout the year by providing orchestration to significant works of music during special services, as well as perform their own pieces throughout the season.
The Joyful Ringers
Director: Kathy White
Rehearsals on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:00pm. This five-octave handbell choir rehearses weekly and rings in worship once monthly from September-May. Currently looking for substitute ringers for the 2022-2023 season. All ringers and substitutes must be able to read music. Contemporary Praise Team
Director: John Woodall
The Praise Team rehearses weekly on Wednesday nights. They sing every Sunday during the Contemporary Service at 9:30 am.
Woodwind Ensemble
Director: Craig Estep
Composed of solely woodwind instruments, this specialized ensemble rehearses on Tuesday nights at 7:00pm.
Melody Makers Community Choir
Director: Craig Estep, Accompanist: Kathy White
This group is made up of people from all around our community. Group rehearsals are seasonal from 9:30-11:00 am on Tuesdays. Please visit the Melody Makers group page to learn more.
