Disaster Relief: Supplies & Drop-Off Location at MUMC

The Matthews United Methodist Gym is a Collection Hub for supplies headed to our mountain communities.

Hours:

+ Monday & Tuesday, October 14 & 15, from 10am-5pm
+ Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, October 22-24, from 10am-6pm

Volunteers greet people at the Gym Reception Entrance along the front sidewalk to receive donations. (Sign Up to Serve.)

Supply List:

-Bottled water of any size, especially 1-gallon or multi-gallon jugs
-Electrolyte packets like Gatorade and bottles of Gatorade
-Water purification tablets
-Non-perishable food (canned & dry goods), especially MREs (Scout camping style: boil the water & add to make the pasta for example) or pop-top style cans (also welcome can openers)
-Disposable utensils
-Cleaning supplies (disinfectants, paper towels, gloves) & large garbage bags
-Hygiene Kits OR soap, shampoo, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products
-Baby supplies (diapers, ready-made formula – does not need water, and wipes)
-Dog & Cat food
-Hand Warmers
-Blankets & Sleeping Bags (new or gently used/clean)
NO CLOTHES needed at this time.

Did You Know?

  • On Monday (9/30), six pallets of hygiene kits – that YOU packed through previous Global Impact Mission efforts — were delivered to Boone, NC.
  • On Tuesday (10/1), a dump truck was loaded and delivered to the Weaverville, Marshall and Hot Springs areas in North Carolina.
  • On Wednesday (10/2), supplies were packed on an 18-wheeler and delivered to downtown Asheville, NC.
  • On Thursday (10/3), a U-Haul was packed by volunteers, Scouts/leaders, and a support group that meets on campus then delivered to Polk County.
  • On Friday (10/4), supplies were packed on an 18-wheeler and delivered to Swannanoa, NC.
  • On Sunday (10/6), 190 Hygiene Kits & 147 Cleaning Kits were assembled between worship services and delivered to Burnsville.
  • On Monday (10/7), supplies were packed on an 18-wheeler and delivered to Black Mountain, NC.
  • On Thursday (10/10) supplies were packed on an 18-wheeler and delivered to Canton, NC.
  • On Thursday (10/10), CCH sent 2 pallets of donations to a Latino church in Hendersonville, NC.
  • On Friday (10/11), we used $768.98 from Global Impact Disaster Relief to purchase small canisters of propane for people using grills to cook food. These canisters were delivered to Spruce Pine, NC.
  • On Monday (10/14) & Tuesday (10/15), we collected donations and a truck picked up supplies and delivered them to Swannanoa on Tuesday.

The weight of the supplies on the first three 18-wheelers totaled an estimated 51,000 lbs!
