Disaster Relief: Supplies & Drop-Off Location at MUMC
Our hearts are heavy as we see and hear about the loss and devastation in our beloved Western NC region and beyond.
The Matthews United Methodist Gym is a Collection Hub for supplies headed to our mountain communities. Volunteers are greeting people at the Gym Reception Entrance along the front sidewalk to receive items Monday, September 30 – Saturday, October 5 from 9 am – 8 pm and Monday, October 7 – Wednesday, October 9, from 9 am – 7 pm. (Sign Up to Serve – Watch for slots to be added.)
Supply List:
-Bottled water of any size, especially 1-gallon or multi-gallon jugs
-Electrolyte packets like Gatorade and bottles of Gatorade
-Water purification tablets
-Non-perishable food (canned & dry goods), especially MREs (Scout camping style: boil the water & add to make the pasta for example) or pop-top style cans (also welcome can openers)
-Disposable utensils
-Cleaning supplies (disinfectants, paper towels, gloves) & large garbage bags
-Hygiene Kits OR soap, shampoo, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products
-Baby supplies (diapers, ready-made formula – does not need water, and wipes)
-Dog & Cat food

- Donations can be made to the Global Impact Fund: Give Now and notate “Disaster Relief” in the memo.
- Hygiene & Cleaning Kit Assembly Event Sunday, Oct. 6 Between Services from 9 am – 1 pm
- Register to be on the front lines for recovery efforts. Volunteers must have Early Response Team (ERT) training to assist in recovery efforts: ERTTraining-InitialSign-Up

Did You Know?
- Six pallets of hygiene kits – that YOU packed through our previous Global Impact Mission efforts — arrived in Boone in the early morning hours on September 30.
- A semi-truck was packed full of donated supplies on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and the relief supplies were being used by survivors early in the morning on Oct. 3 in mountain communities where roads were washed out.
- A truckload of supplies was provided to the Town of Weaverville officials on Oct. 2 for Northern Buncombe County.
- A U-Haul was packed Oct. 3 and supplies were headed to Polk County to be distributed.
- Supplies were packed in a semi-truck on October 4 that will be headed to Swannanoa.
