Baptisms

Baptisms are one of the Sacraments in the United Methodist Church. People of all ages can be baptized at Matthews UMC. We baptize by sprinkling Holy Water to symbolize the sacrament. Please contact our Worship Assistant at 704-815-1915 if interested in scheduling time to explore baptism with a pastor or if you have a date in mind for the calendar.

Weddings

Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant in the presence of God. Matthews United Methodist Church reserves its sanctuary and grounds for marriage ceremonies of its members and their family members. One of the couple or their parents must have a direct affiliation with Matthews UMC in order to be married in the Sanctuary or Chapel. Before proceeding with any wedding plans, please check with Julia Thompson in Facilities at 704-815-1914 to determine availability of the date. Matthews UMC enjoys a tradition of excellence in music which it wishes to maintain in all events that involve music, including weddings. Weddings in the church are regarded as worship services and the selected music must be sacred. The officiating pastor will work with you on this detailed planning.

Other Facility Requests

For all other facility use requests, please submit your request at least two weeks prior to the event and a facility team member will contact you. If you have any questions, please contact Julia Thompson (phone ext. 127) or Del Funderburk (phone ext. 145). Team members are available by phone Monday-Friday, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at 704-847-6261.

Use the following online request form for one-time use, recurring events, and vehicle request. (Vehicles can only be used by MUMC church ministries and driven by pre-approved drivers.)
