Outside the Box: Moving Into Holy Week

Outside the Box: Moving Into Holy Week

Published March 25, 2026

Dear Fellow Ministers,

We are excited to move into Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday this week on March 29. Worship will be special as we get a sense of the celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. I hope you will read through Luke 19:28-42 as God forms a sermon in us. We will continue building on the “Resilient Love” theme that has guided us this Lent.

Please view last week’s worship services (we livestream our 9:30 am Contemporary Service and our 11:00 am Traditional Service) if you were unable to be with us. As always, there was incredible music and a Spirit-filled time of worship. By the way, these links are a great way to invite someone to worship with us.

I continue to be amazed by the depth of discipleship, the work ethic, and the joy for Jesus that is shown through MUMC. Our Age-Level Ministry team worked to set up for our Women’s Brunch last Saturday, then totally cleared everything to be ready for Sunday morning, and then prepared the space for our weekly Youth Worship on Sunday night. I had the pleasure of visiting with our amazing youth (see my weekly video). Again, we have incredible youth and leaders who are growing in their faith! This is exciting to witness. Our Age-Level team makes sure that we offer the best discipleship opportunities we can for all ages.

I am grateful for the way this church seeks to keep focused on what is important. I hope you can fully lean into the reality of Holy Week. We will host Jerusalem Marketplace in The Commons/Gym on Palm Sunday, a Labyrinth in the Gym (Tues-Thurs), Maundy Thursday Worship, Good Friday Worship, Easter Sunrise Service, and our Regular Services at 8:15 and 11:00 (Traditional), 9:30 (Contemporary), 9:30 (Easter Jam in the Gym), and 12:30 pm (CCH).

God is doing beautiful work through Matthews United Methodist Church. Thank you for being a part of it and inviting others to participate. I look forward to being in ministry with you this week!

In Christ’s Service,
David

Did you know that MUMC shares music clips on YouTube featuring our Praise Band, Sanctuary Choir, Youth Praise Team, and Music Instrumentalists? Enjoy the “Holy Spirit” clip from 9:30 am this past Sunday.

Did you know that The Micah Connection, our MUMC Justice Ministry, had a potluck dinner where they heard updates from work done during the first quarter of 2026?

Did you know that MUMC hosted the Epworth Youth Choir & Bells from Ohio on their annual tour to Florida on March 23? Forty singers and chaperones were so happy to be in our newly renovated sanctuary. They presented a lovely concert of music from around the world and a Lenten-themed second half.
