Intergenerational Small Group

Men Serving at Monthly Breakfast Image

Living a Life That Matters . . .

This group is about building relationships and inviting people into the story of Jesus! We are currently visioning for what is next for our community! Come alongside Matthews UMC as we gather weekly for an intergenerational small group online on Sundays at 11AM . . . and for special monthly events.

Breaking Bread | 6:30PM | 2nd Tuesday of Each Month

Breaking Bread is a fresh way of being in community with one another beyond Sunday mornings. Breaking Bread is simply the church gathered around the dinner table. On the second Tuesday of each month 6th graders - adults gather together to share a covered dish meal, a short message and encouraging conversation, and a time of prayer and acoustic worship with communion.

The goal of sharing this time together is to experience worship in community through a new and transparent way. We have discovered that through Breaking Bread we are all able to come together for the purpose of inviting one another deeper into the story of Jesus. In the book of Acts 2:42-47, the church was found breaking bread from home to home. As Gentiles began to start churches they created the "Agape feast church". The first followers replicated Christ's pattern, and gathered the poor and the strangers around tables of food to talk and share about Jesus. "Dinner Church" was their form of church.

At Breaking Bread we talk to one another. People are able to open up. Feelings come out about faith, about sharing your life's experiences with somebody else and hearing theirs. That's what makes it so special. Come join us!

Sunday Morning Small Group | 11:00 AM | Online

We believe that Small Groups are a big deal. We believe that people are made for community and we develop community through Small Groups. We have found, there is no better model for growth, care, and support.

The Intergenerational Small Group meets weekly on Sunday mornings at 11AM in the Gym at Matthews UMC for coffee and breakfast treats, followed by round table community and discussion.

This small group consists of multiple generations (infant - older adult) that are looking for connection beyond their own personal age and stage of life. Faith grows in this gathering through the sharing of lives and the stories of God's faithfulness in the gathered group, the offering of prayers, the breaking of bread, and the "mutual investments" made in each other. The typical format of the group's discussion time is a brief Bible teaching/introduction of the topic followed by small group discussion around round tables.

This group also participates in being the hands and feet of Christ through monthly service opportunities both onsite at MUMC and at location of some of our non-profit partners.

One to Share

We believe your story is the most compelling reason for a person to meet Jesus. Instead of providing you with a static invite card, we want to encourage you to have a face-to-face interaction with a friend over coffee.

How It Works:

  1. Take someone to coffee. Let us buy a drink for you and a friend at Brakemans. You can pick up a card at Small Group on Sunday Mornings. A Point of Clarification - Every "One For You // One To Share" card has $10 on it. If you do not use the full amount on the card please invite another friend, or return the card to Small Group to be reloaded with funds and passed on to another person. We want you to be generous but to allow others to be generous as well, we encourage you to buy one drink for you and one drink for a friend.
  2. Listen & Share Ask questions, listen, and share your story.
  3. Invite them to join you at Small Group or Breaking Bread. We know this can be intimidating, but what an awesome opportunity to invite someone into the story of Jesus. Invite them and make plans to come together. Sunday Mornings 11:00AM | Coffee Social & Small Group
  4. Share Your Experience Inspire others by taking a photo with your friend and post and tag it with #MUMCToShare

We so look forward to hearing about your experiences and how God uses your story to help others meet Jesus. For questions, contact Pastor Corey at 704-815-1941.
