COVID Updates

Matthews UMC is actively meeting on campus for worship and ministry.

Due to Mecklenburg County's mask mandate, masks are required indoors at the church and at off-site ministry activities as we do our best to protect the most vulnerable. You're invited to Traditional Worship at 8:15 and 11:00 am and Contemporary Worship at 9:30 am.

  • All are invited to attend in-person worship on Sundays (there is no reservation system)
  • Following the Mecklenburg County mask mandate on Sept 21, 2021, masks are required indoors at the church and at off-site ministry activities as we do our best to protect the most vulnerable.
  • There are some sections within the pews where social distancing may be easier to maintain.
  • We will continue deep cleaning between services and on campus. To allow every effort for cleaning between worship services, please exit the Sanctuary in a timely manner.
  • Church is open for through-the-week ministry.
  • United Kids & Youth Ministries require that face masks be worn covering your nose and mouth at all indoor gatherings & strongly recommends them at outdoor gatherings where children and youth are present.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding as we try to love our neighbors by "First, doing no harm." Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have relied on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), local data from the North Carolina Department of Health, Governor Cooper, our MUMC health professionals and the Western North Carolina Conference (Bishop Paul Leeland) of The United Methodist Church to guide us. Our pastoral staff is available to follow up with you by telephone for prayer, counseling, encouragement, and for any care needs you may have. Many people are ready to return to worship and ministry as usual but others are not. We have heard from those who are waiting a while for more people to be fully vaccinated. Please extend Christian charity to those making different choices. We ask that all continue to practice good hygiene...and to worship from home if you are not feeling well.
